Rocket Spanish

hen Rocket Spanish landed in my in-tray for a review, I thought "Learn Spanish In 3 Months Or Less? It's another one of crazy claims!" However, in the interests of being objective, I suspended my (dis)belief and started looking at the facts. So how does Rocket Spanish aim to help you learn a whole new language in a relatively short period of time?

The key things that Rocket Spanish concentrates on are interactivity and practicality. By focusing on these two things, the idea is that rather than getting bored/ frustrated after a week and giving up, you actually want to learn more, and you quickly get into a pattern of learning, and then wanting to learn more, learning again, wanting to learn more, etc.

There is another reason this method used: because it's the most effective. This package is based on the idea that the reason young children seem to pick up languages easier than adults is that they are exposed to it in an environment that suits our brains better, rather than trying to learn a language in a more 'academic' setting (like school. Boo!). So how does Rocket Spanish go about doing this?

The package packs in over 12 hours of interactive lessons, a conversation course book, beginner and advanced grammar books (also audio supported) taking you on a journey from beginner to advanced in your Spanish speaking. That includes over 500 pages, 414 exercises, and software learning games. Mauricio Evlampieff (designer) promises that "You might be starting with the simple stuff like Hola and Gracias but before you know it you will be reading, understanding and speaking Spanish como un experto (like an expert)!" That's what we like to hear! So does it work?

As I said before, I was a little skeptical about the claims of this package. There are a number of "learn Spanish" software packages out there, but in my opinion, this one gives you the best 'bang for your buck' (so to speak). It's very well presented: polished and slick. If you get the download version, you can be on your way in minutes. The way the course is structured, you can go to bed every night having learned some more Spanish, and the incredible thing is, it stays in your brain! This makes Rocket Spanish great fun to use.

The software games are one of Rocket Spanish's secret weapons, and really pushes it above the competition. You get to learn real, everyday 'street' Spanish (as opposed to the more 'formal' language), as well as pronunciation (again, missed out in many other packages on the market).
